MY BEES ARE ALIVE!!

WooHoo!!!

I'm soooooooooo happy to see my bees outside the hive cleansing. Although we aren't through winter yet, it is a promising sign to see that some are still alive. I'm excited for spring and very much looking forward to working with the bees again.

Hey,great news! If you are lucky enough to get some temps above 50, it would probably be good to try to check a frame or 2 in the top hive body just to see if there is any honey. I plan to hopefully do that mid-week if temps get there, and feed if the honey is gone. This is a tough stretch and as they are more active, they'll be needing more food.

I just posted about my bees too!

Same message ("My bees are alive!!"); many more words than necessary.

More bee activity tomorrow I'll bet.

Your enthusiasm is contagious! I would LOVE to learn more about beekeeping and even keep some bees if I could... but living in an urban area it would be complicated... It is a future goal of mine. So pleased that your little bees are active again!!! xo Jen

Thanks for the tip on feeding Jim! We are suppose to hit 40's today. It is taking all I have not to peek inside the hive. Lol! Are you using candy boards at this time? I want to slip a pollen patty in there. I hope we hit 50 's by the end of the month. It will be nice to see how things are going inside.

Pam,

That is great news about your bees! We've had a lot of bee losses across mn, I am hoping my girls are strong enough to last one more month of cold.

Jennifer,

You would love beekeeping. It really is one of the most fulfilling hobbies I have taken on. It compliments your soapmaking as well since with soap you can create more of a use for the honey and beeswax. I know here in MN and New York there are beekeepers keeping hives on the roof of their apartment. It has really taken off in such a good way.
