SOAP CUTTER IN ACTION

Today I cut the peppermint soap in the new soap cutter. My opinion: I LOVE IT!! Its really easy to use and fast. I'm really impressed. Originally, when I started making soap, I used whatever mold I could find. Drawer organizers, lined shoeboxes, whatever I could think of. I graduated to a beautiful brambleberry mold (one I still love and still use). I just thought I'd try this one out to see what it was like and my verdict is IT IS A KEEPER. I'm happy with the two molds I have now, I don't need any different ones at this stage but I may need larger. LOL BRAMBLEBERRY carries a larger version of the one I own and so does CREEKSIDE SOAPS.

One thing I really like about this mold is it allows for different size cuts. I didn't know that when I purchased it (didn't read all that the cutter was capable of doing).

Here are some photos of me using the creekside soap cutter. My darling daughter also gave it a try.

TRIED THE NEW MOLD

Well, I tried the new mold yesterday. Had a friend over who wanted to learn about soapmaking, so I let her do most the work. She did a great job!! We tried out the new mold. I wasn't as prepared as I should have been. I didn't think out how I was going to cover it until it was time to pour the soap into the mold. A little too late. I just grabbed plastic wrap and lopped it on top of the soap, hence, the little lines in the soap. I'm a perfectionist and those lines are driving me insane. Can't wait to get this out of the mold and wack off those lines. LOL Thank goodness for soap cutters. LOL

I'll be trying out the soap cutter tomorrow. I'll take some photos of that to share.

SOAP MOLD HAS ARRIVED

I decided to order a different type of soap mold. I've been using the same one for quite a while now and just wanted a change. I decided to get the 4lb. soap mold from Creekside Soaps. I really like the looks of it. I can't wait to try it out! I also purchased the soap cutter.

Here it is:

I also received my order from Snowdrift Farm. It is time to get busy on my holiday soaps now that everything is here. The new FO's I ordered for the holidays smell delightful. I can't say what they are yet because I'm involved in a swap with some other soapers and the scents are a big secret... for now ;)

MADE A BATCH OF ORANGE FLECKED SOAP

Usually when I made soap I will add my natural color at trace. This time I decided to do things a little differently. I took some paprika and added it to the lye/water mix. When the oils and lye were temperature ready I added the lye to the oil. As is common, the lye was very stinky once the paprika was added. It maintained its orange color but once added to the oil the orange appearance was gone. I put the fragrance oil in and then it smelled more like a stinky flower. LOL But, thats normal. After my 18 hour waiting period I uncovered the soap and I was left with no orange soap but orange flecked soap. My only regret was that I didn't use more paprika. I'm liking the little orange flecks, there just aren't enough of them. I guess next time I'll add lots more :)

MY BUSINESS LOGO IS FINISHED!

I'm so happy to report that the logo for my soap business is finished. I really love it. The creator of my logo did a great job and I'm very happy with the finished product. The colors, the layout, the design, are exactly what I asked for. It was all done very quickly and it was very affordable. I couldn't be more pleased.

Please check out the designers website. She creates such cute graphics. She also does web design. Here is a link to her site:
